Les Miserables

I read this book in college. I finished it while I was staying at Columbia University, and saw the Broadway musical shortly afterwards.

When I saw this movie advertised, I thought it looked amazing. It turns out the best parts were on the preview, and they all involved Anne Hathway.

I actually saw the movie on the big screen, first-run, on New Years Day. My biggest disappointment was that neither Hugh Jackman (ValJean) or Russell Crowe (Javert) had big enough voices for their parts. When Anne Hathaway sang "I Dreamed a Dream", though, that alone was worth the price of admission. I also enjoyed Marius and the soldiers singing "Red", and the multi-cast shots for "One More Day".

The movie exactly followed the Broadway adaptation, which was a pretty faithful, though bare-bones, adaptation of the book. (it was a loooooong book)
