The Time Travelers Wife

While overall this book held my interest, the end disgusted me. She sat around, holding on to his memory, for 40 years??? Forty years? Just waiting until she was an old woman and could see him again for what probably was a few hours at the most. Thank goodness the movie changed the ending, allowing her to see him for a few moments just 3-4 years after his death, with the possibility of more meetings to come.

I liked how she was impregnated after his vasectomy from a past Henry traveling into the future. And the movie actually made more of an effort to explain why she had so many miscarriages. I appreciated this too.

The movie also eliminated the sexual past of Clare and Gomez, and the fact that Gomez was in love with Clare for so many years. While this created some interesting tension and interaction in the book, I was just as happy to see it removed.

Overall, I would say the plot of the movie was an improvement over the book. A note to authors everywhere: please don't have a woman (or a man!) sit around waiting for his love for 40 years of more. It's just pathetic.
